Hot fuel efficient petrol hatchbacks

Petrol prices are on all time high and with no scope for them to come down, it becomes really crucial for you to opt a car that gives you best possible mileage.

On the back of raving inflation and rising input costs, the prices of petrol are likely to be hiked by Rs. 2 per litre and what seems as the best possible alternative is to switch to cheaper fuels like diesel or go for hybrid cars.

But none of these options come in handy as both diesel and hybrid cars cost a bomb. What comes easy on your wallet are the petrol hatchbacks. We give you top five most fuel efficient hatchbacks that you can opt for:

Chevrolet Beat 1.2 LT

Funky, yet not too cheeky, this hatchback offers design and style not seen before in this segment - be it with its edgy, muscular exterior design or its trippy blue lit interiors with that superbike-inspired instrument cluster. The Beat is available in tree models: the base version PS, second variant, the LS and the top as LT.

The top of the range LT with climate control, integrated audio, abs and optional airbags is priced at a bargain of Rs. 4.21 lakh (all prices ex-showroom Delhi) and delivers a mileage of 12.34 kmpl (city) and 17kmpl (highway). The Beat is good fun to drive as well, with precise steering and a perky 1.2-litre petrol engine under the hood.

Hyundai i10 1.2 Asta

The new i10's changes aren't just cosmetic - the biggest change in character that the car gets is in its engines. The i-10 Kappa engine makes this car an even better deal; its top model 1.2 Asta is available for Rs. 5.23 lakh with a mileage of 12kmpl (city) and 16 kmpl (highway). It is a refined vehicle that is quite spacious and well designed.

But the real story with the new i10 is in the engine bay of the 1.2 litre Kappa2. We already know that the outgoing Kappa engine itself was a decently peppy performer and for the Kappa2, Hyundai has left most of it unaltered. The new design theme has also made the i10 more desirable.
